I Am Not for Sale’ is the culmination of over a decade of tireless work from one of Hip Hop’s most slept on MCs and all round renaissance man - John Robinson aka Lil Sci. Many of you will know J.R. from his work with Sol Uprizing or Scienz of Life or from the stellar output of his own Shaman Work label which he runs together with Chris Craft. John’s is also a unique voice you may recognise from a glut of guest apperances for and collaborations with Madlib, Count Bass D, Rawkus Records, MF DOOM, Daedelus, Ammon Contact, Dwight Trible, Jneiro Jarel and Flying Lotus.
Having teased the underground community in the last two years with the widely acclaimed mixtapes ‘The Leak Edition’ Volume 1 & 2 (and subsequent vinyl sampler ‘Leak Edition EP 1’ on Fat City) J.R. is ready to unleash his official debut album release. Production on this project comes from some of the most groundbreaking beatmakers around today namely FLYING LOTUS, JNEIRO JAREL & IG CULTURE, perfectly complimenting John’s poetic flow and forward thinking vision. Check The Rhyme & Fat City.

John “Illa J” Yancey, younger brother of late great genius producer James Yancey (AKA Jay Dee AKA J Dilla), is currently completing his debut album for Delicious Vinyl. With the multi-talented Illa J rhyming and singing over a treasure trove of previously untouched Jay Dee gems, the project represents both a full-circle collaboration and a whole new beginning in the story of the musically exceptional Yancey brothers.
When Jay Dee passed away from complications relating to lupus in February 2006, he left behind an extraordinary legacy of production work, including hits for Common, Janet Jackson, and Busta Rhymes. One mother lode of previously untouched beats dates from his time working on the Pharcyde’s sophomore LP, Labcabincalifornia (Delicious Vinyl, 1995). As Delicious Vinyl owner and founder Michael “Mike Floss” Ross explains: “From ‘95 through ‘98 Jay Dee was my go-to guy for hot beats and remixes. He was always making beats, always. So there was a select amount of tracks that he composed for me during that time, only they never got used. When I finally met Illa J last year, I gave him a CD containing those unreleased beats.”
It was a case of pure serendipity, since 21 year old Illa J had just relocated to Los Angeles and constructed a studio built around Jay Dee’s own recording equipment, dubbing it Yancey Boys Studios in tribute to their fraternal bond. “Dilla was twelve years older than me,” Illa J says. “So back in the day in Detroit I was just a little kid, sitting on the stairs in our house, watching him make those first beats for Slum Village. So I always felt my brother’s tracks and had an instinct for what I wanted to do over them.
When Illa J set to work in early ‘08 on recording the album, the project flowed quickly as he entered the proverbial can’t-miss zone. As Illa J says: “One of the things I learned from my brother is that you don’t get that much time, so make the most of it. That’s why I’ve decided to dedicate my life to doing what I love: music. To work with Mike Floss and Delicious Vinyl, the label that released those hits my brother made with The Pharcyde [”Runnin’” and “Drop”] is really special.” Rensoul.

Mike Slott (Heralds of Change / Lucky Me) ) comes with his 2nd solo 45 on All City in 2008. 2tracks - one instrumental and one vocal track featuring NY based singer/rapper/producer Muhsinah. “Flunky” is the a side instrumental on some future flavas with extra bounce while the flip “Deux Three“, already getting heavy rotation on Benji B’s Deviation programme, is a more mellow affaire with broken drums, wonky basslines. Artwork important, as always, and as ever Lucky Me’s Dom Sum comes with the visual sickness. Get the 45 here.
Mike Slott - Deux Three Feat. Muhsinah

On his second major release as a solo artist, Black Milk shows tremendous growth as a producer, adopting more live instrumentation and introducing more complex arrangement than his previous sample-heavy work. He also shows marked improvement as an emcee, and carries most of the album himself with only three guest verses on the entire album (from emcee royalty Pharoahe Monch, Royce Da 5′9″, and Sean Price). Not even two years removed from his breakthrough release “Popular Demand,” Black Milk proves on Tronic that not only is he growing as an artist, but that Hip Hop music as a genre still has room to grow. PRE ORDER the album on Fatbeats. Thanks to Kicksnare.
Your are invited for Black Milk’s online album listening party.

After Simbad’s first album Supersonic Revelation, he’s back with a new project called TettoryBad (aka Simbad, Grooveman Spot & Tettory BLK). If you didn’t hear any music from Simbad before, we suggest you to go dig for “Soul Fever”. The new album entitled Unite was released on Jazzy Sport.

Clutch of the Tiger sounds like a collection of film-noir tracks run through the Clutchy Hopkins and Shawn Lee magical music machine. It’s dusty and mysterious junkyard jazz that’s powered by sly beats and other-worldly funk. Famous comic book creator Jim Mahfood (who has worked on Spiderman/Marvel, Clerks, Grrl Scouts, Stupid Comics, among others) liked the tunes so much he provided the killer artwork for the package! FYI - Inside the album is a hidden code that gives customers a deal on limited edition prints of the Mahfood artwork, available exclusively from the Ubiquity website. To buy or read more click here.

He was once forced to write a thousand words (me) as punishment for his excessive talking during class..
10 years later, he talks mad shit, speaks his mind, plays the drums and doodles now more so than ever.. But at the tender age of 30, Ant.Vala does it with confidence + swagg.
