Miss Erykah Badu hasn’t released any new music for over half a decade, since her previous “New Amerykah Part Two” album.
The first lady of Nu Soul releases her a new mixtape, “But You Caint Use My Phone“, which is a reference to her song Tyrone. She recorded the project together with producer Zach Witnessin in Dallas and defines the genre as ‘TRap & B’. Each song on her mixtape makes reference to telephones and our reliance on staying inter-connected.
The verdict? Well lets be real this is not a new Badu album. It is what it is, a nice snack in between with “Hello” featuring Andre 3000 being the best thing on there. I really don’t hope Erykah is trying something that a younger generation has been doing a lot better for the past few years. My two cents is that anything miss Badu drops has the potential to be amazing as long as it comes from her heart. But You Caint Use My Phone is available exclusively on iTunes today.
