Very blessed to be sharing this podcast that Exile put together for LA based record label, Plug Research. It’s a mix comprised of exclusive instrumentals and includes plenty of exclusives from various upcoming projects, including his “Radio” remix project (coming soon), the upcoming album with Fashawn (In-Stores Oct. 20th), upcoming projects with Chicago based MC – ADAD – and a reintroduction to certain key pieces from Exile’s past catalogue. Look out for the upcoming remix project where various producers remix certain tracks from Exile’s “Radio” album, as well as MCs getting in on some of the instrumentals. Remixes and features include Alchemist, Evidence, Samiyam, DJ Day, Clutchy Hopkins, Flying Lotus, Blu, and many more. Thnx to J. Kim for the heads up and Exile for the dope podcast!
When Computer Jay told us he was invited by the guys from BD to do his live set at the Viral Radio X Beat Dimensions release party tomorrow, I was kinda psycked. I’ve seen some footage online and can’t wait to check out Jay and his electronic alter ego perform live. Not only will local heroes Cinnaman & Juha be playing, but you can expect a whole lot of dopeness from Danny Breaks (UK), Jay Scarlett and Jay of course! Lets hope he brings some of that LA sunshine to the Trouw building in Amsterdam. In case you didn’t know…go check it out.
Computer Jay – Distance
[audio:http://www.moovmnt.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/Computer-Jay_-_Distance.mp3]Earlier this month, Hyperdub reported the initial details of the release, which confirmed a run of five weekly twelve-inch samplers containing exclusive tracks leading up to the full CD release. Joker, Martyn, Cooly G, Flying Lotus, Samiyam, Mala, Ikonika and more are contributing fresh material for the vinyl releases, and all of these tracks will be compiled on the first of 5‘s two CDs. Some exclusive cuts will also be on the first disc’s tracklist, with King Midas Sound and Ikonika offering new material, while the long-awaited minimal melodics of Darkstar’s “Aidy’s Girl Is A Computer” will finally see a release. That said, arguably the hottest talking point of the CD is the appearance of the first new solo material from Burial since his Untrue album dropped in 2007. The second disc will act as a “best of” selection, compiling tried-and-tested anthems from the likes of Kode9, Joker and Zomby, and will also mark the first time that Burial’s “South London Boroughs” will be available on CD. Flying Lotus – Disco Balls
[audio:http://www.moovmnt.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/Flying_Lotus_-_Disco_Balls.mp3]Samiyam – Roller Skates
[audio:http://www.moovmnt.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/Samiyam_-_Roller_Skates.mp3][audio:http://www.stonesthrow.com/jukebox/damfunk-from-toeachizown.mp3]This particular part of my debut; Toeachizown is Vol. 3 & it’s called Life because these songs focus on relationships; good ones & weird ones (if U will). These songs also include vocals on all the tracks. The one I’m most proud of in this juncture on the album is “I Wanna Thank U (4 Steppin’ Into My Life)” as it’s dedicated 2 someone very special 2 me who came into my life at the right time and without judgement. It’s a full song. Hook, verses, bridge and ready for radio play. I just wanted 2 show that I can actually create a full song (if and when I choose 2), and not only way out there beats & such.
All the songs on Life I hope connect with my friends who dig my take and contribution to the this strain of Funk, which I consider Melodic-Funk, influenced by such great artist that came before me like: Loose Ends, KASHIF, MTUME, and some of Steve Arrington’s (of SLAVE) more mellower solo joints. I also enjoyed creating “Could I Be Loosing Another Lover?”. This one’s dedictated 2 all who may be able 2 relate. I just thank U 4 listening. Stay tuned 2 Vol. 4: Hood. Peace fam. – D-F
