Jasper Staal from the northern city of Groningen is a bit of an oddball at times, but a good guy never the less. He represents the Darker Than Wax crew and visited the Red Bull Studios Amsterdam for our monthly Werk Space series.
Together with his knob twisting friend and Beatsofreen, Jasper laid down the foundation for some fresh new music. Of course you can hear the full track titled “Higherrr” next week when it drops on Soundcloud. Until then enjoy this short video about the man of staal.
Our friends at Darker Than Wax have been steadily growing over the years and we would like to congratulate them on their “DTW 30K” compilation.
DTW has been building a strong and steady foundation with artists like NeguimBeats, Jasper Staal, Silo, Beats O Freen, Melo-Zed, fzpz, Kerem Akdag and 10.4 ROG on their roster. All these producers handed in a lil sumthin’ to celebrate the fact DTW has now over 30K followers on Soundcloud.
Soak up the free vibes and let the DTW crew take you on a musical journey. Good looking out on the free download and lets face it…who doesn’t love freebies?!
To my great pleasure I found an email in my inbox a few hours ago that made me curious at first and delighted a little later. Freddie Joachim decided to drop a seven track freebie EP entitled “Charcoal” via his own label Mellow Orange today (insert fist pump).
It is no secret that we have been a fan of this Californian producer for the longest. I personally got into him because of incredible cuts like “Sexual Chocolate” of Freddie Joachim’s “Tiger” EP from 2008. In the past years Freddie released “Midway“, followed by “Fiberglass Kisses“. A a free download like this is always hits the spot though!
It’s been almost five years since Shigeto and Devonwho were working on a joint 12-inch that was supposed to come out on All City Dublin.
As we all know, sometimes things don’t pan out the way we plan them. So half a decade later we find ourselves enjoying five previously unreleased tracks from Devonwho and Shigeto. They were sitting on them for such a long time that they decided to bundle them all on the “2010” EP, which is available for free download on Shigeto’s Soundcloud page.
Enjoy the music and make sure you follow both artists on Soundcloud and Facebook!
Yung money baller PATCHWORK aka Koen Hesp out of Haarlem, came down to the Red Bull Studios Amsterdam to join us for our ‘Werk Space’ project. The ZenSupremacy producer invited his label buddy Chef Red and recorded a gang of new material.
The instrumental version of “So Far” was also birthed during his visit to the studios and was supposed to have singer Danny Cainco from Dallas on vocals.
Sadly he was unable to record the vocals on time due to technical difficulties.
Later this week we will have Rotterdam beatmaker Giorgio Oehlers join us in the studio. He will be the second producer out of the Darker Than Wax camp to represent, but best believe you will come to discover, love and respect many more talented Dutch producers. Please grab a free download and be so kind to check out more music from PATCHWORK.
Much love to Serena Indigo (artwork), Joao MB Costa (shot & cut) and Lexflex81 (logo design). Could not have done this without you all!
One of Belgian’s best-kept secrets is producer/musician TITLE, who in everyday life he goes by the name of Toon Janssens (cat out of the bag).
Like many he grew up in a musical family and learned how to play instruments at an early age. Around 2010 the one-man project TITLE was founded with the sole purpose of making uptempo and synth based music for the dance floor. Over the paste few years TITLE has played at Tomorrowland, Big Chill London, ADE and supported Bonobo, Cinematic Orchestra, Bilal and more.
Monday TITLE drops the latest chapter entitled “Memories” on Cosmonostro. The album fuses Hip-Hop vibes with funky synths and electronic beats. The ‘title’ track is definitely the one for us so enjoy a stream and pre-order the rest of the album.
DEFLOn is a young beatmaker straight from north cakalak and let me tell you he is bustin’ out some serious beats.
No doubt about it that this guy has skills and a passion for experimental Hip-Hop beats. Back in 2012 DEFLOn dropped his “Darker Than Black” album on Circuitree Records and “A Ghostly Apparition” released a year later. The producer returns, this time on Laruche Records, with his latest project titled “Vibrate“. It is perhaps best described as a colorful palette of instrumentals tinted with Electronic, Jazz, House and Hip-Hop influences.
Pleased to exclusively premiere the track “Repeating Ball” on our Soundcloud. Go ahead…show some love and pre-order the EP here. It will be available from June 17th in case you were wondering.
Grillz grew up in a musical family with his father being a jazz pianist and a guitarist as well.
Back in 2001 Grillz started a studdy in classical guitar at the conservatory of Lyon. Music has always been a big part of his life and one of his earliest influences come from the primitive style of Hip-Hop. Eventually the French producer started drawing influences from Jazz, Funk and Soul music. In 2005 Grillz invested in an electric guitar and started playing in Gypsy, Rock and Jazz bands. He instantly fell in love with producing his own electronic music, bought an MPD and stole his father’s MIDI keyboard to get serious in 2011.
Fast-forward to today, which marks the release date of his “Architect” EP and the exclusive premiere of the track “Skylines” on our Soundcloud page. The entire EP is available on Cosmonostro (name your price).
For our fifth Werk Space edition we invited veteran producer Wantigga. Who we have always known as simply Wan. He thought it would be a good idea to invite fellow Soulection producer Jarreau Vandal for a collaboration at the Red Bull Studios Amsterdam. Now we’re not exaggerating when we say the outcome of last months Werk Space adventure is truly phenomenal.
As a starting point the two Dutch producers used the infamous ‘So Flute’ sample. They completely switch it up with Jarreau going buck wild on the drums. At this moment the track is not entirely finished yet, but Wantigga suplied us with an exclusive Werk Space preview right here!
Astral Black seems to be a label/collective from the United Kingdom and as they say their business is tapes, parties, vinyl and tees. They have returned with the brand new, 14-track strong compilation, titled Frass FM 2.
Just like on the first compilation, we find another impressive list of producers such as Soulection representatives Sivey and JD Reid. Other super dope producers such as K15, Budgie, Jon Phonics and Jaisu have also donated a piece of music. Our favorite gems on Frass FM 2 come from Sivey and Budgie, but this does not mean you shouldn’t download the compilation for free and listen for yourself.
