IAMNOBODI‘s “Brothers” was given to us to premiere and it is with pleasure that we tell you to clean your ears and open up those earholes. The track goes from rather ominous to straight Cali vibin’. By the way the homey almost has 50k followers on Soundcloud, so we’d like to congratulate him in advance!
Technically it’s far from “Summer In Jakarta” at the moment, but who cares? The good people over at Jakarta Records have made a collection of previously unreleased music for us. Artists such as 20Syl, Ta-ku, IAMNOBODI, Mura Masa, Suff Daddy, FloFilz, Guts and many others are featured on this action packed compilation.
FYI…the Summer In Jakarta compilation will be available as a free download. Selected retailers will have a free cassette tapes and a super limited vinyl version was pressed up too. The wax will not be for sale, but will only be given away. So stay tuned..
Hobo Truffles is a worldwide producer collective and netlabel founded by Robot Orchestra and Shuffle Jack.
With their latest “Ode To Delia” compilation they pay tribute to Delia Derbyshire and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. In addition to the sampling aspect, they incorporated the Radiophonic Workshop’s overall approach towards creating and manipulating sounds. In the late 1950’s the members Radiophonic workshop crafted beautiful futuristic sounds with the use of tape-recorders, by cutting up individual notes and manipulating the sounds in various ways. Laying the foundation for rudimentary sampling techniques with very limited equipment.
Melodiesinfonie from Zurich drops the winning track “Galactic Wellness“, but please be sure to check out the rest of the free downloadable compilation as well! Ain’t nothing wrong with a batch of laid back beats to max out to.
Visual Vibez is a collective of volunteers who are passionate about impacting communities through art, music and spreading love. Their “Selfless” initiative gets support from Esta and most recently Diversa also donated a track to support the non-profit MusicianCorps!
Selfless is a month long campaign where independent musicians donate their music to support an art/music based non-profit or charity. Though the songs are free to download, it seems only fair that you donate so that the gift of music can be taught to a new generation of kids. Whip out your credit card and start showing some serious love for another great Visual Vibez action!
Trian Kayhatu’s was born in Jakarta Indonesia, but as a young lad moved to the Netherlands with his folks. At an early age he got into music and was heavily influenced by his uncle, Indonesian jazz pianist Chris Kayhatu.
This guy loves making good music and you can hear he’s been doing what he loves for many years now. Trian Kayhatu is in a super funky band called Butufunk consisting of Trian Kayhatu, Azteka and Karish. Ya’ll better recognize!
Trian’s been featured in online music web magazine DE:BUG and his music has been played on the radio by Gilles Peterson (BBC), Ennio Styles (Stylin’) and Joe Kay (Soulection). It will be no surprise that his next project on Darker Than Wax is straight butta. We’re very excited to exclusively premiere the title track of his upcoming “Suture” EP.
Everyone meet LA-NO, a next generation producer coming out of Amsterdam. He has been picked up by Darker Than Wax and has worked together with a few producers such as El. Train (Manchester) and Trian Kayhatu (Rotterdam).
La-No’s bugged out rework of “Say” My Name with El is a super sexy slowed down tribute to Destiny’s Child’s and really vibin! Glad to be discovering so much new talent from all over the globe, but especially in my own hometown. No date for an official release yet, but keep tabs on Delano if you know what’s good for you.
The most humble person I have ever met is without a doubt the Italian stallion…DJ Blue. Combine this with the fact that he has deep-rooted passion for music and you might understand why DJ Blue is such a dope DJ.
Blue grew up in a tiny village near Venice (Italy), but decided to take a leap of faith and move to the big city of Amsterdam a few years ago. Music was the reason for him to leave the comfort of his hometown and start a new adventure. He gets acknowledgement from the heads, but has yet to reach the reconition he truly deserves. With his latest “Low End > High Pass” mix, he takes a big step in the right direction.
Stream “Low End > High Pass” and follow DJ Blue while he takes you for a ride, sharing his most beloved electronic sounds of the moment.
It seems like more than a few Belgian producers are into that raw electronic funk sound. Guys like Pomrad and Toolbox have been on our radar for a while now, but we recently added another one. Belgian producer Toon Janssens founded the artist name Title back in 2010. He grew up in a musical family and started playing instruments from an early age. Title is all about making uptempo synth based electronic music for the dance floor and so Title released his “Kitsch” EP on French label Cosmonostro earlier this week.
With titles like ‘Boogie Drol’ (translated into boogie turd) you know this EP is gonna sound funk-inspired. Containing ‘Serious Beats’ that sound kinda ‘Kitsch’ at times, but oh so nice. Head over to the Cosmonostro Bandcamp page and grab this for dirt cheap.
Marc Rapson is a man of many dimensions. This talented jazz pianist with a passion for raw hip hop beats spent the last decade quietly building a following amongst those in the know. This new album is for those people.
On “Dark vs Light” Marc blends lucious hip hop beats with a touch of jazz. Vocally he gets a little help from Liz Elensky (on “Love Is All”) and Replife (on “The Rah Rah”). This is exactly the kind of wonderful music we were expecting from a mind that grew up on Ahmad Jamal and A Tribe Called Quest.
Below you’ll find streams of “From Shadows” and “The Kalimba”, but we suggest you listen to the entire Marc Rapson album on the Expansions Collective Bandcamp page and act accordingly!
We told you that new Astronote album was gonna bang! Feast your ears on the brand new “Astroblacked” album wich has “One” on it (which we premiered exclusively last week) as a bonus track.
So many dope tunes to choose from, but since where Illa J fans we had to go for “Crunch Time”. And when it comes to bangin’ instrumentals “FTJFY” is a facemelter fa sho! Amazing fusion of hip hop, reggae, funk and electronic beats with more guest features from Blu, Stacy Epps, Nick Walker, Rasheeda Ali and Mansool.
Don’t be shy…go ahead and drop those nine bucks, cuz I can name 21 good reasons to purchase Astronote’s album!
Evil Needle & Sivey met in an online beat community many years ago and decided to work on an EP together. It took the guys a while, but after years of communication back and forth, the duo finally managed to complete their “Constructive Interference” EP. Though Evil Needle & Sivey never met in real life there is a certain synergy and the outcome is truly wonderul. Two sounds complimenting eachother so nicely…great job fellas!
I’d describe the EP as soulful electronic beats with a dash of broken beats and a twist of garage influences. Any attempt at discribing the sound seems futile, since it’s mostly genre-defying. Just take a good listen for yourself and purchase from the Soulection Bandcamp page if satisfaction is met!
