Now I’m guessing that most of you already know who Pomo is, but in case you’ve been under a rock this year let us go into details. Pomo is a Canadian producer from Toronto who is part of the notorious HW&W collective out of Los Angeles.
Pomo has the same management as Kaytranada, Sango and Stwo and has a bright future ahead of him. Musically he is into Prince, Dilla and Disclosure, but the music he makes is best described as Electronic Disco Funk. Lots of sunny melodies, lush bass and booty shakin’ grooves are the ingredients that define Pomo’s style.
His debut EP, “The Other Day“, features eight killers and no fillers. Not only is this perfect to listen to at home. It’s also highly suitable for any confident DJ to pump at high volume in the club. Available on iTunes or Spotify so pick your poison.
One of the most interesting Dutch producers I have encountered this year is Trian Kayhatu. He is without a doubt one of the funkiest motherfunkers in the low lands.
His brand new “Suture” EP is out on Darker Than Wax and it contains a few missiles. You might remember we premiered “Red Onion White Garlic” a while back, but we had to let ya’ll know what the deal. Really down with the laid back remix that London-based label mate Sh?m did for Trian’s track “Hym”. Frankly, this whole release is four out of four and spot on! Selamat Trian Kayhatu on the release of your EP and turning really really old today.
Dig in those digital pockets, raid your Paypal and spend a few bucks on what we call quality music from the heart.
This brand new Tuxedo video right here is both classy and sassy. The duo, consisting of Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One, dropped three smoking hot tracks last year, but the identity of the group was never actually confirmed.
In the video for “Do It” we meet a graceful valet, that gets tired of parking cars and decides to throw his hair back and audition for the Tuxedo video shoot. Seriously this guy has crazy moves! If you weren’t already fan of Tuxedo’s heavy Funk sound, I’m sure you will be after seeing this hilarious video.
Stones Throw has yet to confirm, but they write a full album can be expected in 2015. Until then, stay classy.
Panes is a name that’s new to us, but perhaps you are familiar with the duo. Tyson McVey is a vocalist from London who now studies at UCL. Shaun Savage is a recording engineer whose credits include artists such as Factory Floor and 2.54.
Earlier this year they released their debut EP on Norwegian label Smalltown Supersound’s new subsidiary Brown Rice. Now, to accompany Autumn/Winter support slots with kindred spirits Kelela and East India Youth, they are releasing “Stills” with handpicked remixes by their favorite producers; Visionist, Sivey and Eyedress. Since we are huge fans or Sivey‘s music, we had to share his Funk-influenced remix with you all.
Very very very happy to hear so many Funk bangers coming out of camp Salva this week. His collaboration “I Could Be” with B. Bravo and Rojai was straight crackin’, but man it just keeps getting better and better!
His “Peacemaker” mixtape released earlier this week and features Young Thug, Schoolboy Q, ASAP Ferg, Kurupt, E-40, Freddie Gibbs and more big names. It’s available for free download as of now, so grab that asap. First track on there is another slap of Funk in your face. Salva is “Freaking U” together with Starship Connection (B. Bravo & Teeko) and it’s so damn sexy. Good to hear so much California G-Funk from my mens.
Follow Salva on Soundcloud in case you weren’t doing so yet.
The homie Paulie Salva from San Francisco, moved to Los Angeles a few years ago and he has blown out of proportion ever since.
Salva is about to release “Peacemaker”, a 13-track mixtape that features big names like Young Thug, A$AP Ferg, Schoolboy Q, Freddie Gibbs, Problem and more. Instead of electronic music, like we heard on his debut “Complex Housing” album, the focus at the moment is on Hip Hop music. For his new track “I Could Be” Salva called in the help out Bay brothers B. Bravo and Rojai. Both are my dudes and I’m so happy they can share Paul’s succes. Jairo’s raspy voice sounds superb on this cut and sexes it right up! Adam’s funk-influences make this a perfect late night lounge and Rome Fortune is on point with the rhymes.
Looking forward to more of this California sexy oh and thanks to Mixmag for premiering this one!
Earlier this year the almighty SA-RA Creative Partners announced their return. Brotha Shafiq Husayn is (as you know) one third of this game-changing super group. Who wrote for and collaborated with the likes of Dilla, Common, Kanye and miss Erykah Badu.
The song “It’s Better For You” featuring Anderson Paak (formerly know as Breezy Lovejoy) is a preview of Shafiq Husayn’s forthcoming album “The L∞P“. A project that includes collaborations with Hiatus Kayote, Miguel Atwood Ferguson, Thundercat and Fatima. It is said to come out early 2015. Let’s wait and see what happens.
To hold you over Eglo Records is releasing a 12-inch containing three new tracks on October 20th. Will be available via Bandcamp, so act accordingly.
By now I guess most of you have heard about French producer DOC Mastermind. Both his “1985” album (released on Laruche) and his collaborative Dagmxy project where covered on the site earlier this year, but now it’s time for another brand new solo project from the DOC.
His sophomore album “Uyuni” is named after the world’s largest salt flat near the crest of the Andes (Bolivia). It is covered by a few meters of salt crust and due to it’s flat surface it looks like a gigantic mirror. The album has been split up into two parts. Part. 1 will be released via Laruche Records on October 20th. Followed by Part. 2 which will be released on Expansions Collective a week later on October 27th.
We are grateful to exclusively premiere the track “ZAAAAPP” and we hope you all support DOC Mastermind. Get ready for some ultra sonic slowed down 80’s Funk with filthy sliding moog basslines. I’m more than sure you’re going to dig this!
We would like to introduce a British producer called PYRMDPLAZA. Since it’s the first day of September and we’re starting it fresh and all.
He’s signed with the French label LaRuche Records and very recently released the track “Foundry” via Soundcloud. Bangin’ ass beat with a heavy dose of Funk to make it swing just the right way. Top it off with some heavy synths and you got the formula down to a science. Great song right here!
The label has been signing some interesting artists lately, so we’ve been keeping an eye on them from. You might want to check out PYRMDPLAZA’s free “Grateful” EP and the track “Games”, which was a contribution to LaRuche’s ‘Free Download Tracks’ series.
So his royal badness sir Prince is releasing two new albums next month. Both “Art Official Age” (solo project) and “Plectrum Electrum” (with 3rdeyegirl) are said to come out on the same day.
Now some of you might already know I’m not the prince of purple’s biggest fan, but I gotta give credit where credit is due. On the track “Clouds” featuring Lianne La Havas he simply tears sh*t up. Mr Nelson brings us that new-age, sexy space Funk that can move young and old. Oh boy don’t even get me started on the recently added track “U Know”. Hot liquid sex poured all over a naked woman’s body right thurr!
On September 30th both albums will be available, but for the time being you can pre-order them here and here.
