PromNite‘s “Bae Area” (Act Right) is synth-laced re-funk of Yo Gotti’s song “Act Right”. We listened to the original version and it hurt our ears so bad we had to turn it off. Enough about the original, but man does this L.A. producer PromNite bring that crackin’ Cali vibe to the table.
Earlier this year he released his “Love Songs For What?” album for those interested. Personally I’d love to hear some more Funk-inspired productions from mister PromNite so when that happens we’ll have more on this guy. On another note, this track might just be on the next ‘Future of Funk‘ mix coming to your ears sooner than you think!
B. Bravo is bringin’ the Funk to South East Asia for the very first time and together with the homies from Goodnws we urge all of you to show some love. To show his appreciation for all his Asian fans and promoters, Adam picked up his talkbox and laid down something super funky for ya’ll! Swoop up this exclusive free download asap and spread the word.

Besides being my most beloved way to start the day, Sex On Toast is also a nine man strong band from Melbourne, bringing you an explosive mix of eighties synth-funk and pop music. You’ll really enjoy this collection of tumultuous sexuality and party jams recorded for her pleasure. Basically this is sex on a platter, preferably served blazing hot. Visit the band’s Bandcamp page and purchase a digital copy or CD to fulfill your needs!
Last month we saw a tweet from Sa-Ra Creative Partners with the message ‘We’re Back!!’
Hopefully Om’Mas Keith, Shafiq Husayn & Taz Arnold will be blessing the world with some brand new music very very soon. Till then we thougth you might enjoy a Slept on Sundays comeback in the form of “Nasty Things“. A long forgotten track that deserves to get some more love.
Moovmnt Guest Mix 09 comes from Melbourne-based Modern Funk producer Benny Badge. His “Seal The Deal” album came out last month and when it comes to that nasty Funk, the man behind Freekwency knows his stuff. We’re very happy to have Benny pick up where we left off last year. Indeed more guest mixes are comin’ your way in 2014! Much love to Duktus again for perhaps the sickest artwork till now.
Henry Wu is a very talented producer from Peckham, South East London, by way of Taiwan. A few months ago he released an EP on 22a Recordings including the song “All Over” featuring Dziko aka Shepard Manyika on vocals and Mo Kolours on percussion. This was a limited vinyl only press and has completely sold out. Unfortunately the song is not due to come out digitally any time soon, so we asked Mr. Wu if we could share this with the world.
Modern Funk producer Tryezz from Chattanooga, Tennessee is a master of combining that eighties Funk with
dropped his fresh “Skylines” release earlier today. The project represents ten years of ups and downs. And it sets the perfect soundtrack for all those hot summer days to come! Head on over to Tryezz’ Bandcamp page to show some love.
Last week sir Benny Badge blessed us with the new Freekwency album. I recon “Seal The Deal” sounds like being in the middle of the early eighties. It’s Funk at it sleaziest (in the best way possible). Of course partly thanks to contributions from Cazeaux O.S.L.O., Charli James, Jordan Ruru, Ale Chambers & De Konichiwa. So as I was carefully selecting which songs to stream, I found myself searching for that heavy headnod material with a heavy groove. And just when I was browsing on Soundcloud (for something totally different) my eye caught a glimpse of this Yam Who? edit. I guess it was meant to be in this post! Enjoy this wonderful Funk-filled album and purchase if you like what you hear.
ChromadaData first popped on our radar when he dropped the talbox banger “Closer” last year. This young and extremely talented producer from Kansas City recently released a new album on Elestial Sound. Whether you’re into soulful melodic beats or straight up filthy funk…this is something you will want to own! Available in both digital format as well as on good ol’ vinyl.
Inkswel & Ugly Drums team up to form Uglyink, who will be releasing a clear limited edition 10″ record containing “Watch Out” featuring miss Charli James. Expect it to be released this summer on Cfr Ltd/City Fly Records and thanks to Dutch designer Joel VDK for the sweet artwork.
