Dizz1‘s latest “Get ‘Em Up” EP is a mere taste of bigger things to come later this month. For Dave’s debut full-length album, “In Sickness & In Health”, is set to be released May 25th on Tru Thoughts.
Instant favorite on here is the track “What You Want” featuring Killbot Kindergarden & Frank Nitt. We had to play some of this on our radio show a while back, but the album has lots more to offer. There will be several collaborations with Frank (no Dank), Aloe Blacc, Om’Mas Keith and Hip-Hip giants such as Sadat X and Tame One (Artifacts).

To most it is no surprise that the French producer we know as Evil Needle is heavily influenced by nineties Hip-Hop music.
He is known for his crystal-clear, luminous sounds which most praise him highly for. On his latest album, entitled “Reminisce“, he delivers what you’d expect. Titty tight beats, sounding crispy as f*ck. Some might say it’s the usual recipe, but I’m still snacking away on all 11 songs myself at the moment.
I remember Evil Needle telling me he started messing around with making his drums sound live. Over the years it seems he has mastered this quite well as you can hear on tracks such as “Lullaby”. One of the reasons I still love this sound, is because I’m a sucker for downtempo melodic joints that gently brush the ear. “Sunday Morning” is the perfect example and like we say…shit is simply vibin’.
Reminisce marks his 3rd release with HW&W following “Equilibrium” & “Qualia” and only features JSMN on vocals. It’s big, it’s bad and it’s well worth it, so pick up a digital copy right here.
Without even knowing the new single Illa J is exactly what we’ve been waiting for! The song called “Strippers” was produced by Potatohead People and Kaytranada and is taken from Illa J’s forthcoming self-titled solo album.
When you go from ‘pimp put on muscle from macking that hoe’ to a smooth line like ‘this one is for the ladies’, you know crack me the hell up. Personally I think J owns this joint and the production is simply bananas. By far one of the best Hip-Hop cuts I’ve heard this month! Oh and big up to all the strippers shakin’ their tail feathers.
Look for the album to drop this Fall on Bastard Jazz, but until then cop the single right here.
Pat Van Dyke is the newest member of the Jakarta Records family. He is a multi-instrumentalist from New York who dips into Jazz and Reggae influences to concoct his super organic sound. You might have heard his “Forest St. Blue” cut on the Winter In Jakarta compilation.
His album “Right On Time” is about to be released on the April 17th and the new track called “Science Fiction” is something else. This little Reggae inspired Hip Hop joint sets the perfect mood and we for one are very excited to hear what the full release is going to sound like.

Let us give you the update on JR & PH7. The German production duo, known for their hard knocking boom bap Hip-Hop beats, join forces with Sacramento emcee Chuuwee. The collaborative album “The South Sac Mack” is the result.
The album is clearly dedicated to the 916 and a handful of tracks are even named after neighborhoods throughout Sactown. Chuuwee gives the listener a first-person narrative and makes you experience the capital city of California in a way you might have never imagined. On the production side JR & PH7 keep it really sunny and fresh by using lots of 70’s and 80’s samples.
Clearly the collaboration between these guy was very organic and this one particular track featuring Blu stood out immediately. So I think it’s only right we add “DueYuu” to this post and tell you to head over to iTunes to check out the rest.
When Kendrick Lamar released “Overly Dedicated” in 2010, we would have never thought he would become one of the most influential rappers of the new generation.
Let it be known I’m not a fan, but I was more than curious about his brand new “To Pimp A Butterfly” album. More then Hip-Hop it’s a true Funk album and it makes me happy whenever a new generation gets exposed to real music. Tracks like “Institutionalized” sound slightly reminiscent of Sa-Ra Creative Partners at first. Only to switch to some straight nineties Hip-Hop. Another favorite is “These Walls”, which is nothing more than a feel good summer time jam with Bilal on the hook.
No gimmicks on this album and with quality featuring artists such as George Clinton, Snoop Dogg, Bilal, Thundercat, Anna Wise, James Fauntleroy and Ronald Isley this might be my favorite Kendrick Lamar album yet. Definitely an album worth your while and give this a listen or purchase right away on iTunes.
Jay Prince’s new joint “Good Right Now” is the first thing to drop after his recently released “BeFor Our Time” EP.
It’s always great to see vocalists work with up-and-coming producers and in this case we’ve been a fan of both Gravez and DrewsThatDude for a minute. Just love the sensual laidback feel of Good Right Now and rest assure you are gonna vibe to this for days. Additional vocals by Raheaven who was also responsible for the vocals on Polaroids.

A wonderful duo that represents and spans across the landmass we call Canada, is Potatohead People. Producers Nick Wisdom and AstroLogical have been at it for years individually, but when Vancouver and Montreal come together, magic seems to just happen.
Their first release came out through Jellyfish Recordings and Bastard Jazz, our favorite label out of Brooklyn, reissued their Kosmichemusik EP later on. Their debut album is a fact now and I think they couldn’t have found a better home for it.
You were all stunned by “Blue Charms” no doubt and trust me when I say “Big Luxury” has a lot more in store for you. It draws influences from Jazz, Disco, 90’s Hip-Hop as well as new electronic music and features an array of guest vocalists. Big man Suff Daddy had you all pumpin’ like Reeboks, last time around on the Winter In Jakarta compilation.
The blunted beat smith returns with some brand new drunken boom-bap in the form of “What We Do“. Now as some of you may or may not know, ‘Suff’ means drinking heavily in German. And trust me I’ve seen this guy in action. The brother can hold his liquor no doubt about it!
We are always waiting for new music from Suff Daddy, so we welcome the news he is coming with a new album with open arms.
Many moons ago we were buggin’ out to Breezy Lovejoy’s refreshing music. Now a few years later Breezy goes by the name of Anderson Paak, a talented songwriter, drummer, producer and live performer.
He recently released his solo album “Venice” and together with Knxwledge, who’s currently working on an album for Stones Throw Records, he now answers to the name Nxworries. Their brand new track “Suede” is now available for stream on the Stones Throw Soundcloud page, so get ta steppin’.
