Several weeks ago ATL saxophonist Darryl Reeves released his new Jazz fusion album entitled “Mercury” via Epic Life Music Group. His 2004 “Diary of a Bandstand” album featured the likes of Robert Glasper and now after eight long years, Mr Reeves is back with a very soulful mix of Mercury music. There are a few interpretations of classic Jazz songs such as Donald Byrd’s “Think Twice”, but also some brand new own material that sounds just as amazing. We suggest you get your copy at without hesitation, after having listened to some streams below of course. [Spotted over at Kevinnottingham]

And what better way to introduce the world to your sound than to drop a dope video…right? The official videoclip for the track “Q&A” (Question & Answer) dropped just now and will take you on a journey through the thoughts and believes of these three young producers.
Eventhough it’s a national holiday over here, we’re still keeping up our end of the bargain. Already the 4th installment of our monthly “Glimmering Fractions” mix series. This time the focuss is more on recent music, but I’m sure you guys are going to like this one as well. Enjoy your day where ever you are, when ever you are and feel free to download and spread the word.
Hiatus Kaiyote is a band of Melbourne’s underground. The group consists of singer Nai Palm, keyboardist Simon Mavin, bass player Paul Bender and drummer Perrin Moss. Their sound is best described as futuristic live soul music, which at times contains a little mysterious and magical twist. Their debut album is entitled “Tawk Tomahawk” and released earlier this month. It’s available on their Bandcamp page, so get ta steppin’.
The homie Buscrates is treating us to a super nice mix he recorded live at 720 Records in Pittsburgh to celebrate Herbie Hancock‘s 72nd birthday (on April 12th, so happy birthday Herbie!!). You can tell Orlando is a huge Herbie fan and I have to say this mix is just what we needed to hear today. So thank you Herbie for the music and Buscrates for selecting some of your favorites. Make sure get this free download while it’s nice and hot.
Earlier this year (yeah we know, kind of a late pass) miss Cecilia Stalin (of Koop) released her tribute project to John Coltrane. “Step Like A Giant” is her way of reaching out to people that haven’t been introduced to Coltrane’s legendary music yet. Thanks Cecilia for paying homage and reaching out to us via social media to let us know about this album. On the production side we have Replife, Flyphonic, Jay Soul, Dhundee, Waiwan and Nate Smith to thank. For more info or to purchase visit Cecilia’s Bandcamp page.

After having put “Sweet Baby” featuring The Funkallero in our last “Glimmering Fractions” mix, how can I not tell you about his EP that came out yesterday? It sounds to me that Kan wanted to experiment a little on this EP, but you tell us what you think about it. It’s available on so take a gander for yourselves.

It’s that time of the week again and I’m not talking about church. The third consecutive Slept on Sundays is a fact after a long leave of absence. Today we have an oldie from Innerzone Orchestra featuring Paul Randolph. Their version of “People Make The World Go Round” came out around 2000 on Planet E and contained a few remixes from J88, Ta’Raach and Kenny Dixon Jr. We thought we’d share the J88 remix with you since it’s down right nasty!

Times flies I tell ya! Already time for part three of our monthly “Glimering Fractions” mix. March’s birthstone is Bloodstone (see our Soundcloud page for a little more info). Tried to fill almost an hour again with nothing but audible niceness. If you’re feeling this, please be so kind to share it. It’s available for download on our Soundcloud page or you can stream it via Mixcloud as well.
