For the longest, a handful of music enthousiasts have been anxiously waiting for Par-Le to release their debut EP. The duo out of London seems to have been in hiding for the past few years. Without warning and totally unexpected (to us at least) Alex Bonfanti (bass) and Miles James (guitar) released their “The Light Years” EP.
We could go on about how eighties Funk Par-Le is and how Par-Le is bringing the boogie back, but we’d rather have you listen to their music for yourself. Quite frankly the single “Exclusive” featuring Nadine Charles is pretty good, but it seems to have been released on…wait Movement Records?! Dunno about this sh*t though (insert emoji with raised eye brow).
Anxiously have we been waiting for Dornik to deliver his self-titled debut album on PMR Records.
You might have been stunned by Dornik’s “On My Mind” last year and I think it’s safe to say this highly talented drummer/singer is well on his way to the top of the underground. Of course it’s not a bad thing to drum for Jesse Ware, but when it comes to talent Dornik has plenty of it.
The BADBADNOTGOOD trio from Toronto, Canada crafted the most wonderful remix of “Drive”. Where the original version sounds like a funky Michael Jackson-influenced song, due to the vocals as well as the production, the remix adds a totally different twist to Dornik’s songwriting skills. Pre-orders are available on iTunes, but you’ll have to wait til August 7th for the album to hit the net. You can also pre-order this release on 12″ vinyl or CD.
One of UK’s favorite producer duo’s, Dego & Kaidi, has returned after releasing “Adam Rock Dissed” on Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature label.
Rarely do we come across pioneers such as these and when they get together for their “EP2” project, you know it’s about to get serious. They bring about this soul feeling with disco swing. Broken step boogie, for dancers from across the globe, a truly jazzy thing on Eglo Records you know.
Over seven minutes of pleasure is what you will experience thanks to the opening track “Black Is Key”. The rest of Dego & Kaidi’s 12-inch EP is really nice too, so why don’t you mosey along toward the Eglo Bandcamp page and pick it up. Artwork credits go to Sassy J.
The Red Bull Music Academy alumna Kadhja Bonet visited Tokyo last year and is working on her solo project. Together with Grammy nominated engineer/producer Itai Shapira, she began working on seeds that would eventually blossom into a duo project titled GENESEA. The duo is based in Los Angeles and are about to release several singles over the Summer.
Their debut single, “Her : Part 1” is officially out now and was co-produced by Nesby Phips. It sounds like heaven poured into a small portion-sized cup greeting you upon awakening. Kadhja’s angelic voice penetrates with a ruthless force, yet feels like the most gentle touch to the soul. Been a fan since the moment I came across this young lady. If she keeps making music as heartwarming as this, I will have to join the official fanclub.
GENESEA seems to be the perfect marriage. Kadhja’s mesmerizing vocal and string arrangements, are an intriguing compliment to Itai’s drums, synth layers and textures. Lets pray this musical matrimony will last forever and bares us lots of musical seeds. For now savor the flavor and purchase the first single on Bandcamp plus press replay!
Uncanny Valley is a record label out of Dresden, Germany. Their latest “Give’n’Take” release is a new series that focuses on a variety of their favorite producers and core artists.
Berlin’s best Max Graef delivers the face melting track “Tittenkuschler“, a slow heater that will surely soothes your soul and mind. What an ultra melodic cut from the Money $ex producer…phew didn’t see this one coming at all.
Other dopeness by Cuthead’s, S3A and Moony Me can be found on the Give’n’take EP, which you should listen on Bandcamp. Credits to Lucas Hunter aka Luca Lozano for providing the artwork for this one.
Daniel Crawford has always been an amazing musician, but when an artist creates a tribute for a wonderful human being, Robert Pelenkahu, it gives us goosebumps. They too had connected through music and talked often. Robert helped with some music business in Indonesia and they spoke the day before Robert passed away.
This weekend I read some status updates on Facebook myself and got sad for a brief moment. Robert, who was known as the ‘friendly big guy’, passed away on July 4th. I won’t lie, a few tears were shed even though I never met Robert in my life. We had talked a few times, but more importantly, I knew deep inside he was a beautiful person with a love for music.
He had worked closely with a my brother Leno (Goodnws) and my thoughts go out to him and all others that were close to Robert. Rest in power and may he be remembered for all his positive and good deeds. The bad we will forgive and forget! And thank you Daniel Crawford for immortalizing Robert Pelenkahu with your song “Robert Takes Flight“.
The funky brotha from down under, Inkswel, has recently released Volume 2 of his retrospective Super Foods series on BBE (Barely Breaking Even). Super Foods Vol. 2 gives you a good idea of Inkswel’s credentials as a producer of ‘Dance’ music. On it he ventures into the realms of Modern Funk, House and even Techno.
Feast your ears on the track “Saturated” featuring Isaac Aesili and Charli James. Inkswel made the beat on a friends MPC whilst on tour, then sent it to Isaac, who was touring Europe himself at the time. Isaac recorded the entire song on his iphone and in addition the lovely Charli James added some backup vocals. It was originally released on vinyl via Burek Records and is one of our favorite songs on Super Foods Vol. 2.
Good news…you can grab a free download right here!
Great news everybody. Sir ROM IV aka Reginald Omas Mamode IV is on the verge of releasing his new 8-track EP titled “All Together“, forthcoming on Intimate Friends.
This intergalactic producer from London describes his music as ‘earthbound heart and soul music for good peoples’ and we love his organic soulfulness. Last year Reginald Omas Mamode IV dropped “Understand Me” on Five Easy Pieces and with the arrival of Summer, Marcel Vogel thought it would be the ideal time to spread the news about the All Together EP.
On Juno it says the release is due in September, but a little bird told me the vinyl will be ready in a few weeks. I suggest you pre-order here and keep it on lock!
Hell yeah, brotha Masego finally did it. Together with Medasin uncle Sego released his long awaited debut “Pink Polo” EP on Film Noir.
We knew Masego was destined for greatness thanks to his sparkling personality, great sense of humor and most importantly his musical background. This often mistaken Jamaican has skills upon skills and it was no surprise to read he recently was signed by Windish Agency. Big things homey!
You probably have heard “Girls That Dance“, which makes for the ultimate feel good club song if you ask me. The second single “Shut Up & Groove” is more on that laid back TrapHouseJazz vibe and the rest of the EP…well I suggest you take a listen yourself. We think it’s extremely refreshing, honest good music and well worth picking up.
Miss a l l i e is already considered one of Toronto’s finest by us. This blossoming young lady is a stunner and with her previous song “Remedy”, produced by Nick Wisdom, she completely blew us away.
This time around she collaborates for the first time with Toronto producer Birthday Boy. The fruit of this collaboration is a new track titled “I Can’t Wait“. Besides a l l i e’s soothing vocals, Birthday Boy lays down a few vocals himself. The music scene in LA has always been bubbling, but as of lately it seems Toronto is becoming a new musical hotbed.
