Young Abraham Blue from Antwerp, has been on our radar for quite some time and it is no secret we are supporters of this young Belgian vocalist.
Together with British producer PYRMDPLAZA out of the Soulection camp, soon to be label-mate Ibrahim jumped into the Red Bull Studios London. The two chilled out, got into the right mindset and ended up creating the stunning track titled “Whatever You Want“. All that missing is a free download, but for now you’ll have to do with a Soundcloud stream I’m afraid.
Believe it or not Gravez actually has been kind enough to do the artwork for PYRMDPLAZA’s previous releases, including this one.
It almost feels like an eternity, but finally we have some new music for you by Kirkis. Like we promised a while ago the “Liverbleach” EP has finally been released on Eglo Records.
With mesmerizing songs such as “Mirror” and “Hypno” Kirkis has managed to win over our hearts and ears. The Australian bassist, slash producer, slash writer, slash painter Matthew Kirkis delivers four tracks that drop like electronic acid. The most amazing track for us is the super soulful, yet spaced out “Helium”. Such uncanny vibes! Both “Kirkis Runs The Woods” and “Vovo” mind-boggling too, but make sure you get into your spaceship before putting these two on.
The digital version of the EP is now available on iTunes or you could always visit the Eglo Records Bandcamp page too.
Ladies and gentleman, good news for all the lovers of true Jazz music. Kamasi Washington has his debut album (released on a label), titled “The Epic”, which contains enough material to split up into three albums. The shortest song on this album is six and a half minutes long and if you add all seventeen songs up, you have a whopping three and a half hours worth of Jazz goodness.
One of our favorite tracks is “Re Run”, but if you’re into contemporary Jazz music you will find many gems on here. The Epic is available worldwide via Brainfeeder and will be pressed on vinyl too I believe. For now you will have to do with a link to iTunes I’m afraid.
We have told you before that Money $ex Records is the truth. One half of their crew is Essen-based wunderkind Glenn Astro.
He returns to the Tartelet family with his debut solo album, titled “Throwback“. On it we hear how heavily influenced Glenn Astro’s music really is by Hip-Hop. On Throwback we witness how the German producer manages to forge his signature Deep House sound, by fusing the two genres effortlessly. As you know samples are often the foundation in the Hip-Hop culture and on his new project Glenn Astro regularly flips some Jazz or Soul cuts.
We see Max Graef feature on two tracks on Throwback and are also looking forward to Wayne Snow’s forthcoming “Rosie” EP to release on the Danish imprint. The official release is slated for tomorrow, but it seems like you can already order your copy of the 2xLP on the Juno site.
Astral Black seems to be a label/collective from the United Kingdom and as they say their business is tapes, parties, vinyl and tees. They have returned with the brand new, 14-track strong compilation, titled Frass FM 2.
Just like on the first compilation, we find another impressive list of producers such as Soulection representatives Sivey and JD Reid. Other super dope producers such as K15, Budgie, Jon Phonics and Jaisu have also donated a piece of music. Our favorite gems on Frass FM 2 come from Sivey and Budgie, but this does not mean you shouldn’t download the compilation for free and listen for yourself.
The young and enchanting Alina Baraz now resides in Los Angeles with her other significant musical half Galimatias living on the other side of the world in Denmark.
This match made in heaven was made years ago and this week the duo finally celebrate their highly anticipated debut EP, entitled “Urban Flora“. It has been in the works for two years and though some of my music peers are not as blown away as I am, I have been dying for this to come out. Alina Baraz sounds like an angel whispering in your ear in the midst the most wonderful and intens lovemaking session ever. Her words are like liquid sex and without a doubt she is one of my favorite female vocalists at this moment in time!
Urban Flora contains a lot of previously released material, but there are at least three new songs that will blow your mind. No questions asked. The song “Show Me” made me feel something I might have not felt before. You guys tell me if it’s me or does this contain just a drop of actual magic? Urban Flora is about fairytales and magic and will guide you through an array of emotions.
Wrap your arms around your loved one and purchase Urban Flora on iTunes right now.
Two music makers from New York, Jesse Fischer and Sly5thAve, have joined forces on their newly released “Vein Melter” EP. On this homage to Herbie Hancock’s legendary Jazz album “Head Hunters”, the duo reframes four masterpieces for the modern day music fans and do it oh so well.
Multi-instrumentalist/producer/engineer and computer science savant Jesse Fischer has made quite a name for himself. He did this by producing for other artists as well as his own album projects and touring with artists like Freddie Jackson.
Jazz school alumnus Sly5thAve, who plays a mean horn, is a composer/producer/arranger who has toured with artists including Prince, Taylor Swift and Quantic. We strongly suggest you peep his super jazzy debut album titled “Akuma”, which was released last year.
Vein Melter is available on Tru Thoughts and pressed as a limited edition 12-inch (300 copies) and of course on iTunes. We played the incredible “Chameleon” on our previous radio show, but here it is once more. This is too good to be ignored!
British Soul singer Nao made quite the thunderous noise last year with the song “So Good” together with A.K. Paul (yes Jai Paul’s sibling). Seems like brother A.K. has produced for Jesse Ware and Sam Smith as well in the past.
At the beginning of the month her sophomore “February 15” EP was released on Little Tokyo Recordings. It was recorded over the past few months in the Stoke Newington studio and demonstrates Nao’s development as an artist.
Check for Nao’s new EP on iTunes or a check out the special limited vinyl release that’s coming out on Dummy Records July 6th. Pre-orders are available here.
Parisian producer Onra returns to the All City label with his third album entitled “Fundamentals”.
This right here is a straight tribute to the countless 90’s hip-hop & R&B joint that some of us grew up with. His album is not just inspired by the golden era, it almost sounds like it was made in the nineties. Onra looks back, but thinks forward as he grabs his trusty MPC and uses no computer software whatsoever!
On Fundamentals we find vocal contributions from Daz Dillenger, Chuck Inglish, Olivier Day Soul, Suzi Analogue, Black Milk and Melodee. Fundamentals is available digitally on iTunes now with vinyl and CD’s to follow June 1st.
Vancouver stand up! Gotta love all this great new Hip-Hop music being released on the newly formed Self Serve Records out of Canada.
Producer Mosaic teams up with Detroit rapper Frank Nitt (of Frank and Dank) to bring you an eclectic sit-back-relax single titled “Go Slow”. It’s our pleasure to premiere this track on the site and let it be known Mosaic got beats. We don’t even have to tell ya’ll about sir Nitty getting gritty on the mic. Right!?!!
With cats like Moka Only, Dudley Perkins, Frank Nitt and Illa J as a part of their catalog, this upcoming label is of to a great start. Grab the new single Go Slow at the Self Serve Bandcamp page.
