Sam aka Floating Points drops a surprise 12″ entitled “Sparkling Controversy” on Eglo Records, which is a dub version of an older track “ARP 3” of his Shadows EP. It’s been floating around (pun intended) for a while and has mostly been played by DJ’s. Great news for all you die-hard fans huh.
We were quite surprised that the producer from London decided to release this single-sided release quite shortly after having released “King Bromeliad” / “Montparnasse” last month. Never the less this gives us the perfect excuse to do a Floating Points combo write up on both the releases!
The single is available now on vinyl or digitally and can be purchased on the Eglo Records Bandcamp page.
Jordan Rakei‘s long-awaited sophomore “Groove Curse” EP has released today on Soul Has No Tempo and what a wonderful piece of work this is.
His modern take on Soul music (with a dash of Reggae) makes this multi-instrumentalist one of kind. Simply put, that Groove Curse EP sounds super refreshing. I mean who doesn’t love that raw, warm sounding Fender-infused vibe? The first single “Street Light” was off the hook, but ‘She told me add the bassline’…are you kidding me? Man what a freakin’ tune right there! And “A Tribe Called Government” with those drums? Let it be know that this fellow from Brisbane has made it to the top Soul artists in our lil’ book. Right up there with D’Angelo, Bilal and Musiq.
We urge you to purchase Jordan Rakei’s Groove Curse EP, for the simple fact that we think it’s well worth buying.
The homey Bilal has returned, this time with the help of Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest).
Mr. Oliver’s new song “Sirens II” sounds majesticly marvelous and might just be his best work we’ve ever heard. So much emotion was poured into this track that my goosebumps are getting the shivers. Must have heard this little slice of heaven at least 10 times by now and still this gets better and better! Let Bilal take you away on what might just be one of the most exciting new musical adventures you’ll experience this year.
Not much is known about future projects, but perhaps next week on his birthday Bilal will share some insight.
Galimatias from Denmark has been one of those producers, who I’ve actually stalked to see what’s up with his upcoming project.
He told me quite recently that he is working on finishing a new EP with a female vocalist. And most likely “Ocean Floor Kisses” is the first track of this soon to be released EP. Wonderland chords on some Final Fantasy ish and Alina Baraz‘s vocals chopped to bits. Marvelous groove and just imagine how incredible the rest of this EP is going to sound.
More info soon, but for now just follow Galimatias on Soundcloud and share with your friends.
With rumors of a possible return of the holy trinity that is called Sa-Ra Creative Partners around the corner, an unreleased Shafiq Husayn track is more than welcome.
On “Picking Flowers” Shafiq Husayn works with rapper Elsadiq. Last year we heard another song called “Candyland” featuring Bobby Earth, but what about that new Sa-Ra music?!? For now I guess we have to settle for this track of the Delicious Vinyl TV compilation. The crew at DVTV handpicked some of their favorite jams from the DVTV sessions and assembles a mixtape, for your summer listening pleasure. Purchase the compilation on iTunes or stream it on Soundcloud.

Night Marks Electric Trio is a Poland- based trio on whom we have been keeping a close look. Jazz music graduates Marek Pędziwiatr (keys & vocals) and Adam Kabaciński (bass & keys) teamed up with Spisek Jednego (productional chops) in order to create their unique sound. A mix of Hip Hop, Jazz and Electronic music is what flows from their minds and into our ears.
The debut self-titled Night Marks Electric Trio EP is a work of love and features vocalists like AB, Raashan Ahmad, Archeo and comes with a fat remix from IAMNOBODI. Straight bangin’ my head to “High Ground“, which in my opinion is a no brainer neck breaker. The song “Breakfast” reminds me of a seventies Jazz Fusion flute player getting lost in a modern day world. Becoming overwhelmed by all sorts of new rhythms and mysterious sounds, but eventually finding her way back again.
Today marks the digital release on U Know Me Records, with vinyl copies to follow in September. The Night Marks Electric Trio EP also features incredible hand-painted artwork from Radek Drutis, an artist known for his work for Stones Throw and Eglo Records.
YUMO is a New Zealand-Born Samoan-Australian producer slash DJ, slash composer, slash engineer. He currently represents Brisbane, Australia though.
His “Immigrant Sound” EP is coming out this Sunday and is on that housy trap jazz vibe. If that makes any sense at all, but I think you know what I mean. There is a sexy little track on there called “Liquid” featuring Jordan Rakei, who will be releasing his very own EP quite soon via Soul Has No Tempo by the way.
We are very glad to exclusively premiere “Roger Dat“. A quite deep track that’s super soulful all the same. Enjoy the stream below, follow YUMO on Soundcloud and pre-order The Immigrant Sound now!
Photay aka Evan Shornstein is a producer hailing from Woodstock, NY. His artist name is a nickname he picked up while studying music in West Africa. The local African kids would point at him and his American friends and started yelling “PHOTAY, PHOTAY, PHOTAY!”. At first he had no clue what the word meant, but he later found out that it means white person in the native dialect of Guinea.
During his six month stay in Guinea, Evan not only picked up his artist name. He also learned how to play Djembe (hand drum) and Balafon (marimba-esq instrument). Now there’s two singles online, “Reconstruct” featuring Seafloor and “No Sass” (available for free download). These will give you a good impression of the music Evan makes, but make sure you visit his Soundcloud page for more music. His upcoming self-titled album will be out August 26th on Astro Nautico.
